Apparently, not.

This has been showing up quite a number of times on my Facebook feed today.  So many people have been reposting it.

So, I called the  Philippine National Police (PNP) and Jen Torres from their PIO said the page that originally posted this is not in any way connected to the PNP.

This is the official Facebook page of the PNP, the one linked to their website: https://www.facebook.com/pnp.pio

Sorry, folks. Knee-jerk reactions are never good.

UPDATE 8/1/12:

  1. The page was created January 2011, though, so it’s just a bit curious that it was never reported as a fake account by the real information office of the PNP. Secondly, if you take a look at the posts for the last year, there is nothing naman that would suggest that this account was created to besmirch the reputation of the police force or create controversy, so the purpose of its creation is unclear. Lastly, they deleted the offending post. If the real people behind this supposedly fake account were not within the ranks of the police, why would they feel the need to remove the post? Just some honest questions.

    • Yes, maybe someone from the PNP made the page. Then again, maybe not. The point is, the page is not the official page of the PNP, as it would like us to believe. Thanks for your questions, I am all for intelligent discussions, not knee-jerk reactions.

  2. While they may disown the page, the problem is that the other “legit” one is set-up like a personal account that you can’t even search for properly.

    • Also, the fake PNP page seems more complete in information. So it is highly probable that someone from PNP really did create that page. All this misrepresentation is really confusing…

    • Hi. Yes, I told Jen from PNP PIO about that, and she explained that when they created the PNP account, Facebook didn’t have Pages yet. But they now have a Page that they will make public soon, she said it’s already set up but it’s still set to “private” for now.
